TAB NZ and Hawke''s Bay Racing combine for Daffodil Raceday

TAB NZ and Hawke’s Bay Racing have sprung into action to make sure the Hawke’s Bay Cancer Society benefits from Tarzino Trophy Daffodil Raceday at Hastings Racecourse on Saturday (18 September).

Alert Level 2 restrictions means entry to the meeting is restricted to pre-registered owners, so members and the general public are unable to attend the race day that marks the first Group One race each season.

Traditionally, Hawke’s Bay Racing has donated the gate takings from the day to the Hawke’s Bay Cancer Society. However, as crowds will be very limited on the day, the club have started a new initiative through an online punters club that all TAB account holders across New Zealand can take part in.

Hawke’s Bay Racing will be conducting the betting on behalf of the Tarzino Trophy Day Punters Club and will also be donating the commission they earn from placing these bets on course to the Hawke’s Bay Cancer Society.

Hawke’s Bay Racing has called on a selection panel made up of racing commentator and form analyst Bruce Sherwin, Waikato Racing Club chief executive Butch Castles along with the Boys Get Paid Team.

One jockey in each of the 10 races will also wear the Daffodil Day silks and TAB NZ will donate $2000 to the Hawke’s Bay Cancer Society for every jockey that wins in the silks on the day.

“All New Zealanders are aware of the effect that cancer has on so many people every day, and we see Daffodil Raceday as a vital way to connect with our community and provide a financial boost to the Cancer Society’s excellent and vital work,” TAB NZ’s General Manager Customer and Betting Simon Thomas says.

“We have all learned to be innovative and flexible because of COVID-19 and the restrictions that have come into our lives, so we are pleased to be able to bring the punters club online to support Hawke’s Bay Racing on this important day on the racing calendar.”

The Daffodil Raceday Initiative was launched in 2014 by the TAB and Hawke’s Bay Racing as a way to mark the first Group One race of the new season while raising money for a wonderful cause.
